Mon to Friday Day Position

Our client is a premier long-term acute care hospital. They are well known as a
respiratory care hospital, a ventilator weaning hospital, and a pulmonary
rehabilitation hospital.

Under the direction for the Director of Nursing the Nurse Manager has 24-hour
accountability and responsibility for the effective implementation of the
philosophy, goals, policies and procedures for the Hospital and the Nursing
Department and their effect on patient care in a designated unit. The Nurse
Manager has authority to make decisions on that unit in the areas of patient
care, human resource and financial management. The unit has patients with
medical-surgical diagnosis.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 Evaluates program to identify effectiveness
 Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and Hospital
policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety
 As agreed to with QI Director, reports unit compliance with regulatory
agencies' standards (i.e., OSHA, JCAHO, DPH, FDA) to QI Director
 Assists personnel in the proper preparation of incident/accident report form
 Maintains current license and knowledge of nursing care requirements for all
patients on the unit; assesses need for personal growth and development and
takes the initiative in seeking opportunities to meet this need
 Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service;
recommends and implements solutions with follow through and communication
 Responds to reported problems/complaints based on urgency
 Completes the investigative process as defined by procedure
 Fully documents the complaint, the investigative findings, and the follow up
letters and reports
 If corrective action is identified, implement plan within the time frame specified
and evaluate for effectiveness
 Utilizes established communication mechanism to provide information to
administrative clinical coordinators covering the unit on off shifts
 Quality Improvement program meets JCAHO and other regulatory agency
requirement standards as evidenced by review

QUALIFICATIONS
 Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
 Current registration as RN in Massachusetts (or eligibility to do so)
 BS with concentration in Nursing required; Master's preferred
 Basic Life Support

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 Five (5) years clinical experience with experience dealing with patients in
locked ward
 Experience in acute care
 Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency.
 Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills,
ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve
issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize and direct the activities
of others
